Professional tennis player Nuria Parrizas Diaz represents Spain. She first achieved a world ranking of 45 in singles in March 2022, and 320 in doubles in September 2022, according to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). When Párrizas Diaz was six years old, tennis was her first sport. Till she was fourteen, she received her training there. At that young age, the Andalusian Tennis Federation offered her a scholarship so she could train at their facilities in Seville and compete in youth and cadet tournaments all around Spain.

Debut

She started competing in both national and international Futures events when she was 16 years old. Párrizas Daz later moved to Barcelona to reside and attend the Hispano Francés Academy. She chose to go back to Granada, where she kept training and competing in ITF events, until she was 22 years old and then she opted to train in Italy owing to a lack of professional support. Her career was cut short while she was ranked among the top 300 in the WTA because of a serious shoulder injury. The physicians advised Párrizas Dáz to stop playing tennis at the age of 24. Nonetheless, she recovered and sought for a way to participate professionally despite without having sponsors.

ITF Titles

Following her return in 2017, she participated in club leagues in Germany, Spain’s Stadium Casablanca, and Italy’s Rocco Polimeni, winning roughly a dozen ITF tournaments overall (Esslingen). Párrizas Daz made the decision to resume her training in Valencia in 2019 in order to advance her career. She had a successful year, having gotten comfortable in $25k and above ITF Circuit tournaments where she added two championships (the first of this level) and finished extremely near the top 200.

Top 100

After two impressive victories in April 2021, Párrizas Dáz earned a spot in the Copa Colsanitas competition. She would be making her WTA debut in the main draw. She defeated Olga Govortsova in the championship match of the WTA 125 Swedish Open in Bastad in July to claim her best victory to date. She consequently attained a new career-high of 108. She won the $100k Tennis Challenge in Landisville, Pennsylvania in August, earning her largest ITF victory. She climbed into the top 100 at position 96 on August 16, 2021 as a result. For the first time in her career, she qualified for a Grand Slam main draw at the US Open. Ultimately, Párrizas Dáz won the first women’s Columbus Challenger in September, earning her second WTA 125 championship. In the final, she defeated Wang Xinyu, setting a new career-high rating of 73. In the doubles match, she was defeated by Wang.

Top 50 debut

At the 2022 Australian Open, she became the first player in her career to advance past the third round of a Grand Slam tournament following Maryna Zanevska’s withdrawal. She thus debuted in the top 50 on February 7, 2022. The National Bank Open, where she lost to Serena Williams, and the Western & Southern Open, where she lost to Tereza Martincová both in the first round, were the two WTA 1000 events where she qualified for the main draw as a lucky loser during the American swing.
