Tennis player Nadia Natacha Podoroska, an Argentinean, was born on February 10, 1997. She participated in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Podoroska has won 14 singles titles, seven doubles titles, one doubles title on the WTA Tour, one singles victory on the WTA Challenger Tour, and one doubles title on the ITF Circuit. She reached her highest singles ranking of No. 36 on July 12 of the same year, while her WTA doubles ranking peaked at No. 62 on October 18, 2021.

Playing for her Country

Podoroska is a member of the Argentina Fed Cup squad and has a 12-8 win-loss record. She defeated Kazakhstani player Yulia Putintseva by retirement to advance to the second round and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova to advance to the third round to earn a spot for Argentina in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Podoroska became the first Argentine woman to play singles in the round of 16 in the Olympics in the twenty-first century. Only two female athletes from Argentina made it there 25 years ago, Gabriella Sabatini and Inés Gorrochategui in Atlanta in 1996.

In October, Nadia Podoroska became the first qualifier to reach the semifinals of the French Open when she overcame third seed Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. As a result of her success in the rankings and her consistent play throughout the season, Podoroska was named the WTA Newcomer of the Year. By overcoming fourth-seeded Petra Kvitová, she advanced to the Yarra Valley Classic quarterfinals, continuing her strong play. Serena Williams, the eighth-seeded player, and 23-time Grand Slam champion were upset by her in the second round of the Italian Open in May. Her third top-ten victory in the previous eight months was this one. Williams was taking part in her 1000th career match.

Podoroska lost to Belinda Bencic, the tenth seed, in the first round of the French Open, although she advanced further in doubles, playing for the first time with Irina-Camelia Begu. On June 14, 2021, she for the first time in her career ranked in the top 40 in singles and No. 69 in doubles. Podoroska made the decision to withdraw from the 2022 Australian Open at the end of the season after the 2021 US Open in order to relax and heal until March 2022 due to the pain she had been dealing with all season. After a ten-month break from play, she entered the Wimbledon qualifying in June 2022 and advanced to the second round.

Podoroska was born on February 10, 1997, in Rosario, Santa Fe Province. She was raised in Fisherton, a middle-class suburb built by railroad workers in the late 1880s. She is one of the three children born to Marcelo and Irene; although her grandparents were Ukrainian, she is not at all fluent in the language. Her mother is a pharmacist, while her father first worked as a watchmaker before becoming a pharmacist. Nadia started practicing tennis at the Fisherton Athletic Club when she was five years old, being the first member of her family to do so.
