Tennis player Zhu Lin was born in China on January 28, 1994. On February 24, 2020, Zhu reached her highest WTA doubles ranking of No. 10, and on October 31, 2022, she reached her highest singles level of No. 58. 2019 Jiangxi Open pairs champion she is. She has also won one singles title and one doubles win in WTA 125 tournaments. She has also won 15 singles titles and 6 doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. In September 2009, Zhu made her ITF Junior Circuit debut at the China Junior 1 Open. She reached her first singles final as well. In that match, Turkish player Melis Sezer defeated her in straight sets. She participated in the China Junior 2 Open the next week and had success there as well, making the semifinals in both singles and doubles. The 2009 Widjojo Soejono Junior Championships saw her continue to excel as she won the singles championship and advanced to the semifinals in doubles. Zhu won her maiden doubles championship the following week and advanced to the singles semifinals of the Solo Open International Junior Championships. She lost in the singles final of the PHINMA International Juniors (week 2) toward the end of the year but took home two doubles trophies.

Zhu began the year in Turkey’s Antalya, where she competed and advanced to the final before falling to Lenka Wienerová. She defeated Iryna Shymanovich to win a $10,000 competition in Ankara in March. She won three competitions in a row in June: the $10k events in Tarakan and Solo, both in Indonesia, followed by her first $25k level tournament in Belikpapan. She competed in her maiden Grand Slam qualifying match in August, defeating Giulia Gatto-Monticone and Arina Rodionova before falling to Zheng Saisai in the third round. During the Hong Kong Open, Zhu made her WTA Tour debut. She qualified for the main draw by overcoming Kristina Plková in the first round, but was then stopped in the second round by Jana epelová. She had previously defeated Wang Yafan, Raluca Olaru, and Elitsa Kostova to earn her position in the main draw. Zhu attempted to qualify for the Premier-5 level Wuhan Open in September but was unsuccessful. She competed in the China Open main draw the following week, when she won the first match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, in her first Premier Mandatory competition.

First WTA Final

Elise Mertens, the defending champion from Doha, was one of Zhu’s biggest victories at the Dubai Championships, but she was defeated by Lesia Tsurenko in the second round. She joined the top 100 in singles on February 25, 2019, and peaked at position 93 in the world. At the US Open, Zhu won her first singles match after dropping six of her opening-round matches when she defeated compatriot teenaged Wang Xinyu in straight sets. She then fell to Madison Keys in the second round. She competed in her first WTA Tour final in September at the 2019 Jiangxi International Open, defeating Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai in an all-Chinese final with Wang Xinyu.
