Kwon Soon-woo, a tennis player from South Korea, was born on December 2, 1997. He has been ranked as high as No. 52 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a spot he first earned in November 2021. Additionally, he reached a career-high doubles world No. 227 ranking in October 2022. Since becoming professional in 2015, Kwon has collected two ATP, five ITF World Tennis Tour, and three ATP Challenger Tour singles championships. He rose to the top 100 of the ATP singles rankings in August 2019 after reaching the quarterfinals of the Los Cabos Open. He participated in his maiden ATP Tour final at the Astana Open in September 2021, winning his first title and making his top-ten debut. He became the first Korean to win multiple ATP titles when he won his second ATP Tour championship at the Adelaide International in January 2023. After winning the 2018 Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoff for the main draw of the 2018 Australian Open, Kwon earned his tour-level and Grand Slam debut. After qualifying for the 2019 Los Cabos Open and making it all the way to the quarterfinals, he entered the top 100 on August 5 as world No. 97.

Kwon achieved his first ATP Tour-level victory in Astana. There, he overcame third-seeded Duan Lajovi, seventh-seeded Laslo Ere, and qualifier Evgeny Donskoy to go to his second ATP semifinal. He upset home favourite and second seed Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinal to reach his first ATP Tour-level championship game. He defeated James Duckworth in straight sets to win his maiden ATP championship, becoming only the second Korean to do so in the Open era after 2003 Sydney champion Hyung-Taik Lee. He also became the first South Korean to triumph on the ATP Tour. On September 27, 2021, he climbed to a new career high of No. 57 as a result. He defeated the sixth seed Alex de Minaur and Mackenzie McDonald to go to the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 level at the Japan Open, where he was ranked No. 120. He overcame Pedro Martinez to go to his first semifinal at the ATP 500 level. He climbed more than 30 ranks in the standings as a result, getting back into the top 100. He defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in three sets in Adelaide to win his second ATP title of his career. He accomplished this by becoming the first Korean to take home several ATP titles. Since Marco Cecchinato in Budapest in 2018, he was the first lucky loser to win an ATP Tour title and the first to advance to the final of an Adelaide tournament.

At the age of 10, he started playing tennis, and his father Younghun was an accomplished amateur player. The other members of his family are his mother Eunmi and sisters Hakyung and Sookyung.
