Australian tennis player Kimberly Birrell was born on April 29, 1998. She has won two singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Circuit. Birrell reached her highest singles ranking in the world, No. 136, on February 13th, 2023. Birrell and her countrywoman Olivia Tjandramulia were upset by second seeds Lisa Raymond and Zhang Shuai in the first round of the Hobart International doubles main event. By receiving a wildcard into the main draw of the Hobart International, Birrell made her WTA Tour debut. She defeated Montenegrin Danka Kovini, ranked 57th in the world, 6-4, 6-3. She was defeated by Dominika Cibulkova in round two. She competed in the doubles event at the same competition with Jarmila Wolfe, and they advanced to the final. Birrell received a wildcard to the Australian Open, although she was defeated by ninth-seeded Karolna Plková in the opening round, 4-6, 4-6. Birrell lost 3-6, 1-6 on her Fed Cup debut against Dominika Cibulková in February.
Soon after, she hurt her right elbow, forcing her to miss the balance of the year. The final ranking for Birrell in 2016 was 584.
