Angelique Kerber, a German tennis player, was born on January 18, 1988. She has three major titles under her belt—the 2016 Australian Open, the 2016 US Open, and the 2018 Wimbledon Championships—and a 34-week streak at the top of the rankings, which was a career-best. She completed 2016 as the best athlete in the world after winning a silver medal at the Olympics. After making her professional debut in 2003, Kerber began to become well-known when, while ranked No. 92 in the world, she reached the quarterfinals of the 2011 US Open. A skilled left-handed player, Kerber’s rating reached the top five in 2012. She eventually rose to the #1 spot on September 12, 2016, being the 22nd and oldest player to do so. On all surfaces, she has won 14 singles titles in her career, including three major championships. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, she also represented Germany and took home a silver medal in women’s singles.

What type of tennis does she play?

Kerber is a defensive baseliner known for her athleticism, speed, agility, and footwork.  She is renowned for her ability to strike low-risk victories with ease and for her counterpunching style of play, which involves extending rallies in an effort to provoke mistakes from more aggressive players. Kerber can smash victories from regularly defensive situations thanks to her potent groundstrokes. She can hit strong shots with deception and speed with her forehand, which is usually regarded as her most dangerous weapon. Her forehand is also capable of striking shots at extremely acute angles, which accounts for many of the victories she accumulates on the court. She hits her forehand with a brief backswing, which enables her to flatten it out and provide a lot of force.

Her forehand down the line is her strongest stroke. In order to produce significant force and establish precise angles on the court, Kerber is renowned for striking her backhand while squatting; normally, she uses her backhand for defense. Her serve is regarded as one of her biggest weaknesses because she rarely hits service winners and rarely serves aces, with her first serve speed often reaching just 104 mph (167 km/h). Because of her second serve’s unique weakness and vulnerability to attack, she seldom wins more than 50% of second serve points.

14th Title in 2022

In order to prepare for the first Grand Slam of the year, Angelique Kerber had to postpone her trip to Sydney due to a positive coronavirus test. Subsequently, she was defeated by Kaia Kanepi by a score of 4-6, 3-6 in the opening round of the 2022 Australian Open. Withdrawing from Dubai and losing in Doha by scores of 6-4, 3-6, and 2-6 to an in-form Jil Teichmann, Kerber’s trip to the Middle East brought her further problems. In March, she made a comeback to Indian Wells and recorded two victories over Zheng Qinwen and Daria Kasatkina. She was defeated by Iga Swiatek, though, and dropped the match 6-4, 2-6, 3-6.

The 2022 Internationales de Strasbourg was a turning point in Kerber’s clay season. Kerber received a last-minute wildcard, and she went on to win five matches to win her 14th career title. She defeated Oceane Dodin, Diane Parry, Kaja Juvan, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Magda Linette, and Aliaksandra Parry. Around three hours and sixteen minutes passed during her most recent match with Juvan. Kerber had one of the best women’s tennis matches ever with 83 triumphs against Juvan’s 83. Angelique Kerber became the third woman to win titles on outdoor red clay, indoor red clay, and green clay after Maria Sharapova and Justine Henin. On August 24, she declared that pregnancy will prevent her from competing in the 2022 US Open.
