Zhang Shuai, a Chinese professional tennis player, was born on January 21, 1989. She has won the 2019 Australian Open and the 2021 US Open in women’s doubles, both times teaming up with Samantha Stosur. Along tennis Elise Mertens, Zhang placed second at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships and advanced to four more major semifinals in women’s and mixed doubles. On April 11, 2022, she attained a career-high doubles ranking of No. 5 after competing in the Charleston Open, where she and Caroline Dolehide advanced to the doubles quarterfinals. At the French Open, she advanced to the third round with Caty McNally. She achieved a new doubles career-high ranking of No. 3 as a result on June 13, 2022. With Elise Mertens as her partner, she made her maiden major final appearance at Wimbledon. On July 11, 2022, she attained a career-high ranking of No. 2 in the world for doubles. Zhang fell to eventual champion Simona Halep in the second round of the Canadian Open on her journey to the US Open. At the US Open, Zhang advanced to the fourth round as the oldest woman, however she was defeated by Coco Gauff in a nail-biting battle that lasted nearly two hours.
