Jason Murray Kubler is an Australian professional tennis player who was born on May 19, 1993. He peaked at No. 86 in the ATP singles rankings on January 9, 2023, and No. 152 in the doubles rankings on September 26, 2022. Due to a congenital knee problem that causes weakening meniscus around the joints, Kubler has spent the majority of his professional career on the lesser circuits despite having a promising junior career that includes the junior world No. 1 ranking and comparisons to Rafael Nadal. Kubler has undergone six knee surgeries as a result of the condition, which has plagued him his entire career. Additionally, Kubler played only on clay courts for the first four years of his professional career to prevent further structural damage to his knees. Along with Rafael Nadal, Kubler was the only player to go undefeated through the World Youth Cup and Junior Davis Cup in 2009. However, Kubler received two wildcards to compete in the doubles and mixed doubles competitions alongside fellow citizens Christopher O’Connell and Jaimee Fourlis. Before leaving the competition, Kubler and O’Connell as a pairing advanced to the third round. In the mixed doubles competition, Kubler and Fourlis had a fantastic run to the final and were vying to become the first all-Australian team to win the title since 2013, but they were ultimately beaten by Kristina Mladenovic and Ivan Dodig, the fifth seeds. Kubler’s victory over Mikael Ymer in the first round of the US Open, his first in the main draw since 2018, came in four sets. Frances Tiafoe, the 22nd-seeded American and eventual semifinalist, defeated Kubler in straight sets in the second round. Kubler and fellow Australian Luke Saville advanced to the ATP doubles championship match at the San Diego Open in September. The American team of Jackson Withrow and Nathaniel Lammons defeated them in the championship match in straight sets. The 2022 season saw Kubler finish No. 107 in the world, which was a career-best position.
