Born on June 9, 1996, Benjamin Bonzi is a French professional tennis player. Bonzi reached his highest ATP singles ranking of No. 44 on July 18, 2022. Additionally, on August 15, 2022, he reached a doubles ranking high for his career of No. 124. The Frenchman excelled on the biggest stage in his country after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the 2017 French Open as a tournament wildcard despite competing at tour-level for the first time. In the 2014 boys’ doubles final at Roland Garros, the former world number 27 junior defeated fellow countryman Quentin Halys to cap off his junior career. He initially qualified for Wimbledon in 2018 and defeated NextGen star Jannik Sinner in the first round of the French Open in 2020. In 2018, he triumphed over Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland.

Bonzi began the year 2021 by winning his first and second Challenger competitions. He made history in July when he became the first qualifier for the Wimbledon Championships. He advanced as far as the second round before falling to former US Open champion Marin Cilic in the round of 64. After taking first place in the Segovia Challenger, he entered the top 100. Bonzi, who was the top seed in the US Open qualification, was defeated in the second round. In the second round of the 2022 Mallorca Championships, he defeated third-seeded and World No. 15 Denis Shapovalov, advancing him to the quarterfinals. After defeating Daniel Altmaier in the quarterfinals, he advanced to his second career semifinal on the ATP Tour without dropping a set in his three prior matches. He eventually rose to the top 50 in the ATP singles rankings as a result. For the second year in a row, he advanced to the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
