Stan Wawrinka and Brandon Nakashima will take on one another in the second round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on Thursday, October 27.
Stan Wawrinka is off to a great start at home, defeating the number two seed, Casper Ruud, 6-4, 6-4. The Swiss delivered nine aces and won 90% of the points behind the first serve to defeat Norway’s heavy favorite in the opener. The victory will come as a surprise given that Wawrinka has been eliminated in the first round of seven of his last eight ATP Tour tournaments. In his previous two appearances in Astana and Antwerp, he was defeated in the first round by the likes of Richard Gasquet and Adrian Mannarino. Prior to that, the 37-year-old qualified for the semifinals in Metz, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev. Wawrinka is clearly still trying to find his way on the tour after having left-foot surgery last year.
In the competition, Brandon Nakashima had to put in a lot of effort to win the opening round. David Goffin of Belgium was his opponent, and he won 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 in two and a half hours. The American, 21, who is having a career-best tour this year, was pleased with the outcome. The 44th-ranked player in the world recently claimed his first singles championship. In the championship match, he defeated Marcos Giron in San Diego. He then performed well in the second round in Tokyo and the quarterfinals in Florence. In Sydney, Atlanta, Den Bosch, and Los Cabos, Nakashima was one of the final eight competitors.
Stan Wawrinka and Brandon Nakashima are scheduled to take on one another in the second round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on Thursday, October 27. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 23 to October 30, 2022.
The ATP Swiss Indoors 2022 will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
