By making it to the R16 in London, Jule Niemeier , a 22-year-old has just achieved the best Grand Slam results of her career.
Jule Niemeier and Heather Watson will compete in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championship 2022. By making it to the R16 in London, Jule Niemeier, a 22-year-old has just achieved the best Grand Slam results of her career. It is unfortunate that there are no ranking points at stake because the young German player would have achieved her highest rating to date. Niemeier has beaten Xinyu Wang, the no.2 seed Anett Kontaveit, and the seasoned Ukrainian player Lesia Tsurenko at Wimbledon with some impressive tennis. These are also her biggest victories till date. Niemeier defeated Tsurenko by 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in thriller three sets victory.
Watson’s chances of progressing are slim, but not entirely nil. So far in her campaign, she has defeated Tamara Korpatsch, Qiang Wang, and Kaja Juvan. Of course, Belinda Bencic early exit cleared her path in the bracket. Watson advanced to last 16 of a Grand Slam singles tournament for the first time after defeating Kaja Juvan in straight sets 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. Last time Watson and Niemeier faced each other Watson emerged victorious by defeating German player in Monterrey 2022.
Watson and Niemeier are scheduled to face each other on Sunday, July 3 in the Fourth round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches on July 2 as the likes of Swiatek, Badosa, Krejcikova and others will be in action.
