Stefanos Tsitsipas and Corentin Moutet will take on one another in the third round of the 2022 Paris Masters on Thursday, November 3.
Tsitsipas was always going to win, but the fact that he cruised to a straight-set victory over Dan Evans within just an hour and 21 minutes spoke volumes about his conviction. Tsitispas defeated Evans 6-3, 6-4 in a conceivably banana-peel match. Tsitispas entered the competition after reaching the finals in Astana and Stockholm, but after losing in the second round in Vienna. He won nearly 80% of his first serve points and 67% of his second serve points. Tsitsipas could be a handful for a few players, including his 64th-ranked opponent in round three, with that kind of force behind his serving.
Moutet had never advanced to the third round of his home Masters 1000 tournament before this, and he needed to beat world number 13 Cameron Norrie to do so. And, while Moutet needed three sets to beat Norrie, there was no doubting his toughness as he pounced on his opponent to win 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3). Moutet showed no signs of tiring in a nearly three-hour match, converting his second match-point to seal the victory. Moutet had to win a couple of qualifying matches to get into the main draw before facing Borna Coric in a three-setter in his opener.
