Stefanos Tsitsipas and John Isner will face one another in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Saturday, August 20.
Stefanos Tsitsipas breezed past his Argentine opponent Diego Schwartzman to advance to the quarterfinals. Tsitsipas needed only an hour and 36 minutes to beat Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3 after a first-round bye and an easy second-round win over Filip Krajinovic. While Tsitsipas only won 58% of his points on serve and was broken twice during the match, he did enough to get past his opponent’s serve five times. Tsitsipas, a 2021 Cincinnati Open semifinalist, took a 4-0 lead in the first set and was 5-2 up in the second when he did give up a little. That wasn’t enough to convince Schwartzman to take the full toll.
John Isner defeated fellow American Sebastian Korda in his seventh straight three-set match on the tour, and he advanced to the quarterfinals of this tournament for the first time since 2017. In his third-round match against Korda, Isner, who had previously needed three sets to defeat Benjamin Bonzi in the first round and surprise Hubert Hurkacz in the second, prevailed 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (4). It was interesting to see that despite having his own serve broken twice, Isner, the world’s number 50, managed to defeat Korda without breaking him even once.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and John Isner are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Saturday, August 20. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
