Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek won their respective first US Open championships this past weekend, marking the official conclusion of the tennis majors. For 19-year-old Alcaraz, it was his first Grand Slam trophy, and for Swiatek, it was his third. Both currently hold the top two rankings in the world and are regarded as the sport’s most promising up-and-coming superstars. It’s not too early to make predictions about who will win in 2023 with four months until the following Grand Slam and a slew of other competitions, the ATP and WTA Finals, and an all-too-short offseason for the players first. While there are some players who might very well win multiple major championships next year we are limiting each player to just one in order to keep it interesting.

1. Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz has to be the favourite for the year’s first Grand Slam following his incredible run in New York and quick rise to the top spot in the world rankings, especially after showcasing his hard court prowess. Alcaraz has shown off his incredible athleticism and mental fortitude over the previous two weeks, demonstrating that no lead is too big and no rally is too difficult. Alcaraz hasn’t appeared to have issues with pressure or attention, while many players did after winning their first major. Alcaraz should win more championships in 2023, beginning in January in Australia.

2. Rafael Nadal

We’re not quite ready to call an end to Nadal’s remarkable rule on clay and at Roland Garros just yet, but it will ultimately come to an end. Nadal’s best chance to win his 23rd Grand Slam championship will still be at the French Open, where he has triumphed 14 times, including five of the last six years. It will undoubtedly be difficult, particularly with young competitors like Alcaraz and 2022 runner-up Casper Ruud, as well as Nadal’s unfortunate string of injuries, but Nadal will continue to be the favourite until disproven.

3. Novak Djokovic

Due to his lack of immunizations and following his deportation from Australia last year, Djokovic’s future is still somewhat uncertain, just like it was in 2022. In January, will he be permitted entry to Australia? He won’t he not? Although it seems more and more likely, we are yet unsure. Despite the turbulence of his 2022, Djokovic has won the last four championships at the All England Club and seven overall. The grass on Centre Court plainly reciprocates the man’s love. He must win Wimbledon if there is one big championship he will take home in 2023.

4. Taylor Fritz

America is more than ready for another major tennis superstar, and this player has the goods. A Gen Z athlete who isn’t hesitant to speak his mind is Fritz. I had my worries about Fritz’s ability to maintain focus while building points on the court since I knew he was a gamer. However, he made significant progress this year by winning Indian Wells and competing at Wimbledon. His opening serve is devastating. His eminently capable coaching staff will work to increase the 51% second serve points won figure with some innovation and novel strategies.

5. Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stef is astonishingly near to defeating Djokovic, and I predict that he will succeed in 2023. The one-handed backhand of the Greek gets better and more refined the more opponents attempt to destroy it. He keeps developing his net game and getting better at the backhand slice. Even more serve and volleys are predicted by my crystal ball. Tsitsipas is frequently criticised by fans for things like his service motion and the presence of his father in the player box. And yet Tsitsipas just can’t seem to lose.
