With almost 350 singles victories and eight trophies, the 31-year-old is the most well-known tennis player in the country of Eastern Europe. In an era of potent double-handers, Dimitrov is one of the few players on the ATP with a single-handed backhand. Dimitrov has appeared on the Forbes Bulgaria cover twice, the first time being ten years ago. The 31-year-old engaged in a lengthy conversation with Forbes Bulgaria editor-in-chief Veselin Dimitrov at the end of October of this year, covering a wide range of subjects. According to Forbes Bulgaria, they included “the obstacles he is facing, his love for Bulgaria, and the expectations that his supporters have for him — as well as those that he sets for himself.”

Still want to improve

The former semifinals at the US Open, Wimbledon, and the Australian Open is coming off a respectable 2022 campaign in which she went 26–22 and placed in the top 30. At the Melbourne Summer Set, Monte Carlo, Vienna, as well as Indian Wells, Dimitrov advanced to the semifinals. After winning the 2017 ATP Finals, Grigor Dimitrov, who has been playing tennis for more than ten years, rose to a career-high World No. 3.

Although the Bulgarian’s success on the court has been at best intermittent due to injuries and bad play, Dimitrov has high ambitions for the upcoming season. Dimitrov, who took over for Dante Bottini as his coach in September, expressed interest in trying “some new things” in the upcoming season on the ATP Tennis Radio podcast: What I want still needs to be better. I’ve completed 13 seasons, so I believe I am very knowledgeable about the ins and outs, but I like to periodically reevaluate, consider what our current goal is, and perhaps even attempt some new ideas.

Breakthrough for Grand Slams

Dimitrov, who has won the ATP 250, 500, Masters 1000, and ATP Finals, will want to break through at the Grand Slam events. He did not get to the final four at any of the Majors this year, something he will strive to change. Since the Australian Open in 2021, the Bulgarian has not advanced to a Grand Slam quarterfinal. At the 2019 US Open, he defeated a certain Roger Federer after falling behind two sets to one to get to his final of three Major semifinals.
