Tallon Griekspoor and Benjamin Bonzi will take on each other in the finals of the Tata Open Maharashtra on January 7.
World number 95 Tallon Griekspoor has raised a few eyebrows around the world after he managed to book a place in the final with a chance for him to lift his first professional title. He beat Jaume Munar in the first round who was by far the fan favorite in the tournament. Then he went on to beat Cecchinato in the round of 16 stage in straight sets and setting up a quarter-final matchup with legend Marin Cilic. He was lucky enough to avoid playing him as he went ahead in the tournament with the help of a walkover and shocked the entire world as he went past Aslan Karatsev 7-6, 6-1 to progress to the final.
On the other hand, World number 60 Benjamin Bonzi had a harder set of matches on his route to the final having faced the likes of Tseng Chun-Hsin in the first round and Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round beating them quite comfortably. Then he faced Filip Krajinovic in the quarter-finals and moved past him to play the man in form Botic van de Zandschulp in the semis. very few would have expected Bonzi to have the better of Zandschulp but he came out on top and ended the match 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 in his favor to play in the finals of the Maharashtra Open.
