Gilles Simon and Felix Auger Aliassime are scheduled to take on one another in the third round of the 2022 Paris Masters on Thursday, November 3.
Given the incredible performances he has had this week, it wouldn’t be shocking if Gilles Simon decided to change his mind about quitting tennis after the Paris Masters. In the first round, he survived Andy Murray after falling behind 4-6, 3-5, and defeated Taylor Fritz in a three-set match that lasted more than three hours in the second round. His two projects essentially represent his entire career. He lacks the strength and talent of other French players of his generation like Gael Monfils, Richard Gasquet, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He also lacks strong serves and groundstrokes. But he compensated for it with tenacity and perseverance, reaching as high as #6.
With a tough three-set victory over Mikael Ymer in the second round of the Paris Masters, Felix Auger Aliassime extended his winning streak on the main tour and on indoor hard courts to 14 matches. An hour later, Hubert Hurkacz and Taylor Fritz’s elimination from the tournament in the second round secured his spot in the ATP Finals. The Canadian has won the championship in four of the six indoor competitions he has competed in so far in 2022, and in each of his most recent three matches in Florence, Antwerp, and Basel, he has only dropped one set. His surface record this year is presently 23/3, which is impressive.
Gilles Simon and Felix Auger Aliassime are scheduled to take on one another in the third round of the 2022 Paris Masters on Thursday, November 3. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 6, 2022.
