Wednesday's second round of the 2022 WTA Granby Open will feature Daria Saville, the 73rd-ranked player in the world, taking on Katherine Sebov.

Saville has maintained a strong playing style throughout the entire season, and this has led to the highest increase in rating for any player on the circuit. The Australian, who was rated 627th in the world in February, has moved up to 73rd right now and might potentially crack the top 50 if things kept going well in this contest. Well, they certainly seem to have kept up that pace as Daria Saville defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova by scores of 6-3, 6-3 in little over an hour and a half. Saville did struggle with her serve, faced 10 break points, twice dropped her serve, but still managed to break her opponent five times to secure the victory. The Australian had previously been to the Washington Open semifinal before losing in the opening round in an ITF event in the Bronx. Here, she faces off against a player whose highest-ever ranking is 192nd in the world, and she is much favoured to win.

When Xinyu Wang defeated Katherine Sebov in the first set of their first-round match, it seemed as though the Chinese player had lost the match. But Sebov wasn’t through, and he deftly flipped the script to seal the victory. Despite only competing in one WTA tournament this year, Sebov, who is now outside the top 300, has been a fixture on the ITF circuit this year. She had lost in the opening round of the Canadian Open in a hard-fought three-setter to Yulia Putintseva. Sebov won her first WTA match of the year by defeating Wang 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in this match. She will now aim for a similar performance.
