A blockbuster clash between fourth seed Maria Sakkari and 14th seed Danielle Collins will take place in the round of 16 of the 2022 WTA Guadalajara Open. Sakkari recorded a comfortable win over Marta Kostyuk in the round of 32 on Wednesday by a score of 6-4, 6-4. The Greek scored three aces and returned four out of nine break points to seal the victory. “I come from a country that is very far, and I was actually surprised the last year that I got this love from every single Mexican in this tournament,” Sakkari said. “I’m very grateful and thankful for that. I’ll try and enjoy as much as I can this week because I want to stay until the end. I really like this place.”

Collins made short work of Polish tennis player Magdalena Frech in her round of 32 tie as she won 6-3, 6-4. The American scored five aces and returned three out of five break points for the win which keeps her in the hunt for a place in the WTA Finals next month.
