In the fourth round of the 2022 US Open on Monday, Aryna Sabalenka, ranked sixth in the world, will take on Danielle Collins.
Sabalenka rediscovered her footing after a close call in the previous round of the US Open, easily dispatching Clara Burel to advance to the fourth round. The top-ranked Belarusian player took control of her third-round match in just over an hour, winning 6-0, 6-2. The fascinating thing about the match was that Aryna Sabalenka broke Burel an incredible eight times, never letting her opponent maintain her serve once. In the first five games of the second set, Burel did manage to win two games, both of which were served by Sabalenka. This came after Sabalenka’s incredible comeback against Kaia Kanepi in the second round, where she trailed by a set and 5-1 before surviving two match points in the ensuing tiebreaker to win shockingly.
She has advanced to a Grand Slam final, having done so at the Australian Open earlier this year, but Danielle Collins was experiencing a form crisis prior to the start of this edition of her home Grand Slam. Collins entered this US Open with a record of 3-5 after missing a few months of tennis and not participating in any US Open Series events. Because of this, even though she was the higher-ranked player, she faced Naomi Osaka as the underdog in her opening match. Soon after, she beat Naomi Osaka in straight sets before winning the second set against Cristina Bucsa. And when Collins faced the giant-killer Alize Cornet, she did encounter some difficulties and needed almost two hours to defeat her, winning 6-4, 7-6 (9) to get to the fourth round.
Aryna Sabalenka and Danielle Collins are scheduled to face one another in a fourth round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, September 5. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
