Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova are scheduled to face each other in the semi finals of the WTA Ostrava Open 2022 on October 8.
In her quarterfinal match, Elena Rybakina, the defending Wimbledon champion, defeated Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in two close sets. The Kazakh put on a masterful serving display to prevent Kvitova from reaching her second consecutive semi final here in Ostrava. The Kazakh was just two points away from exiting the tournament in the last-16. Elena Rybakina’s powerful serve has worked exceptionally well for her this week and she once again showed her prowess in the department by not getting broken even once against Kvitova. Since winning her first Grand Slam trophy at Wimbledon, Rybakina has experienced a slight slump, and she is now aiming to return to a tournament final.
In contrast, Barbora Krejcikova enters the match riding an eight-match winning streak. During that run, she defeated players like Anett Kontaveit, Belinda Bencic, and Beatriz Haddad Maia to win the 2022 Tallinn Open. The Czech, whose form has been erratic ever since she returned from an injury earlier this year during the clay-court swing, finally appears to be resuming the kind of tennis that propelled her to the 2022 French Open title. Their current head-to-head stands at 0-0. The Czech will also fancy her chances in longer rallies as she often manages to frustrate her opponents by mixing in slices and approach shots.
Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova are scheduled to face each other in the semi finals of the WTA Ostrava Open 2022 on Saturday, October 8. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
