Casper Ruud, the 2022 French Open and US Open finalist, will face World No. 9 Taylor Fritz in the 2022 ATP Finals group stage on Tuesday. In his first group match, Ruud faced Felix Auger-Aliassime. Both players were extremely solid during their service games, with no break point opportunities in the first set. The set eventually went to a tie-break, with the Norwegian coming out on top. For the majority of the second set, the duo remained unshakeable on serve. Ruud took the decisive break in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. The match ended quickly after that, with the World No. 4 winning 7-6 (4), 6-4.

In his first round-robin match, Taylor Fritz faced Rafael Nadal. While he maintained his serve, he missed a few break point opportunities. He made amends by playing smart tennis in the ensuing tie-break to win the first set. The pair began the second set with each of them holding serve, after which Fritz reeled off five games in a row to win the match 7-6 (3), 6-1. Because of his victory over Nadal, the American has risen to the top of the green group leaderboard.
