Holger Rune and Arthur Rinderknech will take on one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on Friday, October 28.
Rune’s form this year – he’s won two titles and finished second in another final – means he’s already qualified for the NextGen ATP Finals in Milan in November. But the teenager isn’t satisfied and wants more before the season is over. He certainly got off to a strong start in Switzerland, defeating number seven seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets. And he carried that form into his late-night second round match against Ugo Humbert, another Frenchman. After serving for the first eight games of the match, Rune stepped up his game, broke Humbert to love, and then served out to take the first set. An early break in the second set solidified his grip on the match, which he reinforced with another break. Humbert’s cause was all but lost by that point.
Arthur Rinderknech reached the last four in Gijon, his best result of the season since reaching the final in Adelaide in January. And, after winning the qualifying competition, he was able to carry some of the form he displayed there to the indoor courts of Basel. He started off with a bang, knocking out number four seed Marin Cilic in three sets in the first round. His opponent in the second round was another East European, Alex Molcan of Slovakia, and getting past him proved to be easier than he had anticipated. Rinderknech won the first set with two consecutive breaks, and when he broke again early in the second, he appeared to be in complete control. Molcan gave himself some hope by breaking back, but any advantage he gained was erased when he dropped his serve again.
Holger Rune and Arthur Rinderknech are scheduled to take on one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on Friday, October 28. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 23 to October 30, 2022.
