Andrey Rublev and Fabio Fognini will face one another in the Second round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Wednesday, August 17.
Andrey Rublev, last year’s finalist, will be looking to bounce back from his Canadian Open disappointment and get off to a good start in Cincinnati. Last week, the World No. 8 exited Montreal without a win after being defeated in straight sets by Dan Evans in the second round. Rublev has otherwise been in excellent form this season. He enters the tournament with a 35-13 record and three titles from three finals. In Cincinnati, the 24-year-old is 7-4. Last year, he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals but lost to Alexander Zverev in the final. The Russian is a solid hard court player who is 21-6 on the surface this year, including two titles in Marseille and Dubai.
He got into the main draw as a lucky loser, and Fabio Fognini took full advantage, defeating Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets on Tuesday. The Italian saved four of four break points in the first set and three in the final game to defeat the Spaniard 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 19 minutes and improve his Cincinnati record to 7-8. Fognini’s best finish in the tournament so far has been a quarterfinal appearance in 2014. During the first round, the No. 61-ranked 3-year-old hit 27 winners, 7 aces, and made 25 unforced errors. He had seven chances to break the World No. 40, and he converted four of them.
Andrey Rublev and Fabio Fognini are scheduled to face one another in the Second round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Wednesday, August 17. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
