Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Rebecca Peterson are scheduled to face one another in the first round of the 2022 Granby Open on Monday, August 22.
Nuria Parrizas Diaz, world No. 64, is set to compete in the WTA Quebec 2022 after a quiet couple of tournaments. The 31-year-old cleared the qualifying two matches at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, defeating the likes of Danka Kovinic, Cristina Bucsa, and Kayla Cross – but she did not win her first-round main draw match. Diaz’s overall season (21-24) has been an erratic one filled with ups and downs. Her clay and grass court campaigns were underwhelming, but she performed admirably on the hard courts at the start of 2022. Nuria advanced to the quarterfinals in Melbourne, the third round of the Australian Open, and the semifinals in Monterrey.
83rd in the world Rebecca Peterson reached the semifinals of the Vancouver Challenger last week, defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, Catherine Harrison, and Maddison Inglis before falling to Lucia Bronzetti. That was her best run of the season, bringing her total to 17-15. Her previous highlights included reaching the quarterfinals of the ITF Wiesbaden and Bastad Challenger, as well as the second round of the WTA Adelaide 2 and Melbourne Set 2. Clearly, Peterson hasn’t had his best or most consistent season. However, the 27-year-old Swede will be confident after her strong performance in Vancouver and will look to cause an upset.
