On Wednesday, the 2022 Moselle Open's opening round will feature Frenchman Gregoire Barrere, who is ranked 167 in the world, and German No. 167 Oscar Otte.
Otte did not have the same success in 2022 as he did in 2021, when he won three titles on the Challenger Tour. However, this could be partially attributed to Oscar Otte‘s decision to concentrate his efforts on the main tour. In addition, Alexander Zverev‘s ongoing absence due to injury means that he is now the highest-ranked German player. Nevertheless, he managed to make it to his first ATP tour semifinal in Munich, followed by his second in Stuttgart, and he finally cracked the top 40. He didn’t play on American hard courts for nearly the entire season, though, and didn’t play again until the US Open, where he was defeated by Hubert Hurkasz in three sets.
Barrere was ranked as high as 80 in the world three years ago, but he has since fallen out of favour due to multiple seasons of subpar play. But he has had some success on the Challenger tour, taking home nine trophies and making it to another seven finals, including three this year. Unfortunately for him, he has lost every time. Since making it to the second round of the French Open in May, the 28-year-old had not competed on the main tour. But he has secured his spot in Moselle with a convincing triumph over Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, the 91st-ranked player in the world. He won the first set on a tie-break and the second with just one game lost.
Gregoire Barrere and Oscar Otte are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Moselle Open on Wednesday, September 21. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 19 and end on September 25.
The 2022 ATP Moselle Open is scheduled to commence on September 19 and go on until September 25 this year. The tournament will have five rounds of play excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
