The runner-up in Los Cabos Norrie has not had an easy time in Cincinnati thus far, with both of his matches going to three sets. He began with a match against another teenager, Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune, and narrowly defeated the world number 29 in a match that could have gone either way. This earned him a match against former world number one Andy Murray in a “Battle of the Brits.” The Scot took the first set after forcing another dropped service game from Norrie after the pair exchanged breaks at the start of the match. However, Norrie recovered after averting an early break point in the second set, broke himself, and then held off a Murray comeback by averting three additional breakpoints.

College champion Ben Shelton has had a week he will never forget. The 19-year-old, who made his tour debut in Atlanta and won in the first round, was given a wildcard for Cincinnati and rewarded the organizers’ faith in him by defeating Lorenzo Sonego of Italy, the world number 56, in three sets in their first round meeting. Few would have given him a chance against world number five Casper Ruud, but the American proved too strong for the Norwegian, taking control of the first set with an early break of set. He then broke Ruud in the first game of the second set and never gave the fifth seed a chance to recover. Instead, he broke him again to complete an impressive victory.

Cameron Norrie and Ben Shelton are scheduled to face one another in the Third round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Friday, August 19. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.

The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
