Cameron Norrie won his third three-set match of the week, defeating Carlos Alacaraz 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 in a three-and-four-minute quarterfinal. Alcaraz had more winners (43 to Norrie’s 25) and total points (120 to Norrie’s 115), but he only converted two of 13 breakpoint opportunities, while Norrie broke the 19-year-old three times out of eight. Norrie defeated former No. 1 Andy Murray in the second round, coming back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. With the victory, the 26-year-old lefty improves to 40-18 on the season. This is only his second appearance in the semifinals of a Masters 1000 tournament.

Borna Coric defeated seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday to advance to his third Masters 1000 semifinal. The Croatian, who had a couple of tough seasons and required shoulder surgery last year, returned to the tour in March this year, but remained off-color for most of the year, bringing a 4-8 record to Cincinnati. But fortunes have changed for the World No. 152, who appears to have rediscovered the form that propelled him to No. 12 in the rankings. Coric had started his season with a straight sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti. He then upset Rafael Nadal in the second round, causing the biggest upset of the tournament.

The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
