Since becoming a WTA champion, Alycia Parks has competed in two tournaments, losing both of them in the first round. The American lost to qualifier Rebecca Peterson in the second round of Merida and Anhelina Kalinina in the first round of Linz after shocking world No. 5 Caroline Garcia to win Lyon earlier this month. In just two (ITF) tournaments during the first nine months of the 2022 season, the 22-year-old could win consecutive main draw matches. In the past six months, she has completely changed as a player, beginning with her first WTA quarterfinal in Ostrava and continuing with three European indoor championships (including Angers and Andorra 125Ks).
In the first two months of the season, Mirjam Bjorklund has participated in four tournaments, winning exactly one match in each. She advanced to the second rounds of W60 Canberra and Hua Hin before losing in the Australian Open and Abu Dhabi second qualifying rounds. The first game she has had in three weeks is about to begin. She won her third WTA main draw match (3-7) and first since defeating Renata Zarazua and Yuliana Lizarazo in Bogota a year ago by defeating world No. 365 and wildcard Lanlana Tararudee in Hua Hin. She then defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in a marathon match during the qualifying rounds for Abu Dhabi, earning her first top 50 finish and her fourth top 100 victory.
