The fourth seed Brandon Nakashima was stretched to the limit by world no. 134 Matteo Arnaldi in the first match before regrouping and edging the Italian to take second place in the Green Group table. After dropping the first set, Nakashima was in danger of dropping the second after giving up a break in the fifth game. In the next set, it was Arnaldi’s turn to fight back. He rallied from a 1-3 deficit and then won the tiebreak to tie the game at 2-2. Nakashima took control of the final set, breaking the Italian to love in the third game before going on to win 2-4, 4-3 (9-7), 4-3 (7-4), 3-4 (4-7), 4-2.

The fifth seed Jiri Lehecka began his campaign with a bang, defeating eighth seed Francesco Passaro in straight sets to take the lead in the Green Group after the first round of round robin matches. Lehecka won the one-hour and seven-minute match 4-1, 4-3 (9-7), 4-1 by converting three of five breakpoints and saving two of three. The 21-year-old Czech, who is 41-31 overall this season, reached two Challenger finals this year, one of which he won on clay. His biggest tour-level success came as a qualifier in Rotterdam, where he reached the semifinals. He is 9-10 on indoor surfaces and leads the group.
