Andy Murray displayed an outstanding performance at the 2022 Stuttgart Open where he reached the final after Tsitsipas and Kyrgios.
After a top draw display at the 2022 Stuttgart Open, Andy Murray is all set to get his Wimbledon campaign off to a flyer. His first test will come in the form of Australian tennis player James Duckworth. Murray, who is unseeded in the competition, has not won a major title in quite some time. The Scot came quite close earlier this month at the Stuttgart Open but fell to a defeat in the final against Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 7-5, 3-6. The veteran had beaten top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-final and Nick Kyrgios in the semis to reach the final. Both performances were vintage Murray and the former world no. 1 will be hoping to repeat the same in The Championships.
Duckworth has not had the best of luck at grass competitions leading up to The Championships this season. The Aussie did participate in quite a few, including the Cinch Championships and Eastbourne International but could not go far in either. At the Cinch Championships, Duckworth was eliminated in the qualifiers by an unseeded Paul Jubb. The Aussie did make it to the main draw of Eastbourne but was knocked out in the round of 32 by Lorenzo Sonego. Murray should record a comfortable victory on paper.
Murray and Duckworth are scheduled to face each other on Monday, June 27 in the first round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There are a number of exciting matches on opening day as the likes of Djokovic, Sinner, Murray, Norrie and Alcaraz will be in action.
