On court 1 of the Gstaad Open, Jaume Munar engaged fellow countryman Bernabe Zapata Miralles in a nail-biting first-round encounter. Munar won the opening set, but Miralles gained control of the match after a sluggish start in the second set. When it was 5-3 in the third set, Miralles broke Munar’s serve to win the set and the match. Munar went on to win 4 straight games to complete a comeback and advance to the next round. With a 27-10 record on clay this year, the Spaniard has improved his form.

In the first round of the Gstaad Open, Alexander Ritschard defeated Joao Sousa 6-3, 6-3. This was Ritschard’s maiden ATP circuit victory. The Swiss player used his wildcard after failing to go past the qualifying draw in three previous tournaments. He is 24-17 this season and has been doing admirably on clay at the challenger level since the middle of 2021. Ritschard has been making strides, as seen by reaching the third round of qualifying at the French Open and winning all three qualifiers at Wimbledon to enter the main tournament.
