Tereza Martincova, world No. 69, defeated Oceane Dodin in the first round of the Granby Open on Tuesday. The 27-year-old Czech was the first to break to take a 4-2 lead in the first set. She was broken in the first game of the second set and trailed 3-5 a few games later. But Dodin was unable to serve out the set, and Martincova won the next four games in a row to win 6-2, 7-5. Martincova will look to win consecutive matches for the third time this season on Wednesday, after losing in the Round of 16 and semifinals in Qatar and Nottingham, respectively.
81st in the world Diane Parry battled through the first set before cruising past qualifier Lulu Sun in the tournament’s first round on Tuesday. Parry led by a break twice in the first set, but Sun kept pace by breaking back immediately on both occasions. The 19-year-old Frenchman made a strong start in the second, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Sun broke back, but Parry won the final two games to win 6-4, 6-2. This season, Parry improved to 17-19 overall and 5-8 on hard courts. She’d done it at two major tournaments, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, as well as in Palermo.
