Claire Liu, 22, will compete in the Tallinn Open with a singles record of 26-20 and, more importantly, some momentum. Liu had been struggling on the tour recently, losing in the first round of the Vancouver Challenger, Canadian Open, US Open, and Slovenia Open. She turned it around in style at the Japan Open last week. Claire began by easily defeating Alison Riske-Amritraj and then Elise Mertens in straight sets. She was eventually defeated by Qinwen Zheng. While Liu’s season has been defined by these early losses, she has performed admirably in a couple of tournaments. She won the Clarins Open Challenger but lost in Morocco in her first WTA singles final. 

Ann Li has been stuck in a rut recently, struggling to deliver results. The current World No. 62 is 10-13, but she hasn’t been very active on the tour recently. Her most recent tournaments were Wimbledon and the US Open, where she was eliminated early by Marie Bouzkova and Camila Osorio, respectively. Except for a semifinal appearance in the Melbourne Set 2, Ann hasn’t won more than two matches in any tournament this season. Her overall pedigree is stronger than Liu’s, with two WTA finals. Liu has the upper hand due to her recent form. Ann Li might be rusty and will need some time to get her bearings.

Claire Liu and Ann Li are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 Tallinn Open on Tuesday, September 27. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 19 and end on October 2.

Tallinn Open 2022 Schedule

The 2022 Tallinn Open is scheduled to commence on September 26 and go on until October 2 this year. The tournament will have five rounds of play excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
