At the 2022 Wimbledon championships, Nick Kyrgios and Cristian Garin will face off in an exciting quarterfinal match .
This last week, Nick Kyrgios has been intensely focused, and it has paid off. He has looked reliable at the championship after a strong performance on grass at Halle and a preemptive withdrawal at Mallorca. After a thrilling third-round battle against Stefanos Tsitsipas, he advanced to the round of 16, where he faced American player Brandon Nakashima. Kyrgios dropped the first set and appeared to have a shoulder niggle that required medical attention, but there was no halting his momentum as he claimed the second set with a single break of service and the third in a tiebreak. When he was broken twice by Nakashima in the fourth set, the Aussie performance deteriorated, and the match went to a decider. By breaking serve twice in the fifth game, Kyrgios completely took control of the match. For the first time since his debut in 2014, when he reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, he has secured a place in the final eight.
For the second year in a row, Cristian Garin was back in Wimbledon’s round of 16. He has won the tournament’s opening three matches in his fourth attempt last year. He entered the competition this year having dropped both of his games on grass, but he has emerged as a different performer in the majors. Before eliminating the 29th seed Jenson Brooksby in the third round, Garin defeated Sweden’s Elias Ymer 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 and Hugo Grenier 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in the first two rounds, respectively. It wasn’t the Chilean’s finest of starts going up against Australian Alex de Minaur in the round of 16, who himself had been in good shape. Garin won against De Minaur in thrilling 5 set match 2-6, 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-4, 7-6(6) and book himself for a place in quarterfinal against Kyrgios. This will be the first time when Kyrgios and Garin will face each other.
Nick Kyrgios and Cristian Garin are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, July 6 in the quarter-final round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championship is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches on July 6 as the likes of Nadal, Kyrgios, Fritz and de Minaur and others will be in action.
