On Thursday, Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova will compete against Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina in the second round of the 2022 US Open.

In her 15th appearance at the U.S. Open, Petra Kvitova got off to a strong start on Tuesday by defeating qualifier Erika Andreeva in straight sets. The Czech, who has been in excellent form recently, won the match against the Russian 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 after converting 4 of his 4 break points. However, the 21st seed didn’t have a great start, as she lost serve early in the first set. Kvitova rallied back and won the first set in a tiebreak, preventing Andreeva from completing the match. The World No. 21 gained confidence throughout the match and easily defeated the World No. 30 in the second set to earn a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 triumph. Kvitova, a two-time quarterfinalist at the U.S. Open, has now won 13 of her 15 first-round matches there.
Given Bernarda Pera‘s recent performance, Anhelina Kalinina‘s upset victory over the left-handed American in the opening round was unexpected. The Ukrainian required an hour and 34 minutes to defeat the World No. 45, 6-4, 6-4, despite having only won one main draw match in her previous six tournaments. Kalinina, who is currently ranked No. 47 in the world, performed well in the early going of the season, making it to the final eight at Charleston, Madrid, and Eastbourne. Her season record now stands at 22-18 after Tuesday’s victory, including all events and qualifiers.
Petra Kvitova and Anhelina Kalinina are scheduled to face one another in the second round match of the US Open 2022 on Thursday, September 1. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.

The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
