Benjamin Bonzi defeated Emil Ruusuvuori of last year’s final in the second round after defeating Chun Hsin Tseng (6-0, 6-3) in the first round with ease (6-1 7-6). In two games this week, he’s faced just one breakpoint and converted six of the seven chances he gave himself. Early in the 2022 season, the 26-year-old made a name for himself on the main tour and did well to hold onto his position. In Marseille, he made his first-ever quarterfinal (or semifinal) appearance on the main tour, and he went on to record four more in the ensuing months to enter the top 50.

Sumit Nagal and Michael Mmoh, two wildcards, were defeated by Filip Krajinovic in three sets to advance to the ATP Pune quarterfinals. The Serbian is competing in his first tournament in India in eight years and his first match since the US Open in August of last year. The last time he lost at this stage was to a French opponent, Arthur Rinderknech, in Kitzbuhel two years ago. Currently on a three-match winning streak in quarterfinal matches on the main tour (2-0 in 2022), the former world #26 has only lost once at this stage once in his career.
