At the 2022 ATP Atlanta Open, Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis will play American Andres Martin in the opening round on Wednesday.
This year, Thanasi Kokkinakis is experiencing a comeback, and it all began in Adelaide, where he won his first trophy. It was an unique sensation for him because he was born and raised in the city and because he had endured so many injuries over the years. Kokkinakis followed it up with a doubles victory at the Australian Open, and ever since, he has performed consistently well to move up the rankings to number 69. He has a 15.5 record on hard courts and a season record of 19-11. Hard courts are where he feels most at home and they best suit his playing style. Kokkinakis’ strong serve will work well for him in North America, particularly on the fast hard courts. He will be a deadly opponent if he can play as consistently as he did earlier this year. In Atlanta, he’ll have an excellent opportunity to get comfortable with it.
Before his parents decided to relocate the family further north in Georgia, Andres Martin lived in Atlanta for a number of years. He is a college player who has performed admirably on the tour this year but has little professional experience. He participated in a few futures tournaments, earning some points and moving up to position 7, but he is still a long way from making a significant breakthrough. Martin is a typical American athlete with booming serves and solid groundstrokes. He has played on hard courts his entire life, thus he is proficient on them. Being back in Atlanta will undoubtedly inspire him, and the wild card will allow him to challenge himself on the ATP level.
Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Andres Martin will take on each other on Wednesday July 27 in the first round of the 2022 Atlanta open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
