Miomir Kecmanovic enjoyed himself while he was in Australia and, in a way, gave his career a boost with a strong showing at the Australian Open. He took advantage of an easier draw in the season’s opening grand slam after his fellow countryman Novak Djokovic was disqualified to advance to the round of 16. After a forgettable 2021 season, the young Serbian player entered the 2022 season with low confidence. However, his performance at the Australian Open helped to restore his confidence, and he went on to have a strong first half of the year. On the main tour, he achieved six consecutive quarterfinal finishes (or better), including at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters, and he made his top-30 debut.
Injury-related setbacks have plagued Christopher O’Connell throughout his career, and in 2022, he was still unable to overcome them. In those 11 months, he was forced to retire three times and had physical difficulties in a few competitions. Nevertheless, the Australian was still able to finish the season with 50 victories and two Challenger titles, which ultimately enabled him to reach his career-high ranking of #78. Along with a few impressive finishes on the Challenger circuits, he also reached his first semifinal on the main tour in San Diego and won his first top-20 match by defeating Diego Schwartzman at the Australian Open.
