On Sunday in the final round of the 2022 Granby open Daria Kasatkina of Russia will face Daria Saville of Australia.
Kasatkina just defeated Diane Parry in straight sets, a match that required 14 games to determine. In the triumph, Kasatkina won 88% of the points she received on her first serve and 56% of the points she received on her second serve. Daria Kasatkina capitalised on six of her eleven break points, winning 79 percent of her total serve points. She struck one ace and placed 74 percent of her first serves in the game. The Russian player has dropped a total of 7 games in her past 4 sets while winning each of her last 8 sets. She aims to win her second championship of the year and sixth overall. Kasatkina is 4-4 in final trips on hard courts and 5-5 overall in final appearances.
The Australian secured a spot in the championship game by taking advantage of Marta Kostyuk‘s retirement. Although Daria Saville has been playing well this week, I have a feeling that she wouldn’t be here if that match had taken place. When in top form, Kostyuk is a huge ball striker who is incredibly challenging to stop. Saville, however, has earned the right to compete for the title and is eager to win the first WTA championship since 2017. A woman with three such trophies in the last about 18 months is blocking her path. Saville has defeated top-10 players 13 times in his career, including twice this year. On hard courts, Saville has prevailed in 6 of her past 8 games.
Daria Kasatkina and Daria Saville are scheduled to face one another in the final round of the 2022 Granby Open on Sunday, August 28. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 21 till August 27.
The 2022 Granby Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 21 and conclude on August 27 this year.
