Joao Sousa hasn’t been in great form recently and will be desperate to make the most out of his opportunity at the Rio Open. He hasn’t made it to the later stages of any of the major tournaments he has played in the last couple of months. He lost to Bautista Agut in the Australian Open in the first round and also in the opening round to Sonego at the Paris Masters. He made it to the round of 16 stage of the ASB Classic losing to Gasquet after beating the likes of Eubanks and Reynolds. At the Cordoba Open, he got knocked out in the quarter-finals against Ramos-Vinolas, and at the Argentina Open, he lost to Varillas in the opening round.
Hugo Dellien has been in great form recently and looks to take that form into the ongoing Rio Open as well. He made it to the semi-finals of the last tournament, which was the Concepcion Challenger losing to Coria. In the Australian Open and in Wimbledon, he lost to Couacaud and De Minaur right in the first round. In the Cordoba Open, he beat Seyboth Wild, Cachin, Pella, and Juan Cerundolo only to lose to Baez in the semi-finals. And at the Argentina Open, he lost to Etcheverry right in the first round.
