Despite having won only won WTA singles title in her career so far, American tennis player Jessica Pegula has been one of the most consistent in the world for some time now. She achieved her highest career singles ranking of seventh in July 2022. Pegula is a known face in Grand Slam quarter-finals, having appeared in the last eight of the Australian Open and French Open. She is a prolific doubles player as well with four titles, and a current ranking of eighth with compatriot Coco Gauff. Pegula and Gauff made it all the way through to the final of the 2022 French Open. She has also won seven ITF doubles titles.

At the 2015 US Open, Pegula qualified for the singles tournament and made her Grand Slam debut. She won over Margarita Gasparyan, Shuko Aoyama, and Melanie Oudin to get to the main draw, where she overcame Alison Van Uytvanck in the opening round. In the second, Dominika Cibulkova defeated Pegula in three sets. In September of this year, as a qualifier for the Tournoi de Québec, Pegula made it to her first WTA singles final. She defeated Kristyna Pliskova, Ons Jabeur, second-seeded Petra Marti, and fifth-seeded Sofia Kenin on route to the championship round, where she was defeated in straight sets by eighth-seeded Pauline Parmentier. This helped her finish the year inside the top 125.
Pegula earned her first WTA career singles title at the Washington Open, defeating Camila Giorgi in the final, to record the best result of her career at the beginning of the North American hardcourt season. She reached a new career high rating of position 55 as a result. Pegula concluded the year ranked inside the top 100 for the first time, at No. 76, despite not winning another main draw match the remainder of the season.
At the 2021 Australian Open, Pegula achieved significant success by defeating 12-seed Victoria Azarenka, Kristina Mladenovic, Samantha Stosur, and fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina to advance to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal. She fell to fourth seed Sofia Kenin in the third round of the French Open in June, when she advanced for the first time in her career. In 2021, Pegula defeated Karolna Plková for the fourth time in a row to advance to the quarterfinals at the German Open in Berlin. She consequently rose to the top 25 on June 21, 2021.
She beat Anhelina Kalinina, Bernarda Pera, Nuria Parrizas Diaz, and fifth seed Maria Sakkari in the 2022 Australian Open to get to her second straight quarterfinal at this major. Ashleigh Barty, the eventual winner and world No. 1, defeated her in the quarterfinal encounter.
