Jabeur returned to hard court tennis in San Jose after wrapping off her grass court appearances in July with a victory at Wimbledon. Zheng was nearly upset in the first round by local Rebecca Marino, but the 19-year-old was able to persevere throughout the contest. Ultimately, the 51st-ranked Zheng defeated Marino 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to go to the next round and face Jabeur. Zheng had previously been eliminated by Naomi Osaka in the first round of the San Jose Open, but this season, she had repeatedly demonstrated her talent on hard courts.

The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
