Ons Jabuer, the second-ranked player in the world, will start off her 2023 WTA Tour campaign with a round of 16 match at the Adelaide International 1 on Thursday against Sorana Cirstea. Jaeur’s 2022 WTA campaign did not end the way might have hoped to as she was eliminated in the group stages of the WTA Finals. She played three matches in the tournament and only won one. Her two defeats came against Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and Greek Maria Sakkari. The Tunisian will be hoping for a strong start to her 2023 campaign but things will not be easy against someone like Sorana Cirstea.
Cirstea advanced to the last 16 of the Adelaide International 1 after a commendable victory over Viktorija Golubic in the first round. The score at the end of the match was 6-0, 7-6 (7-1) in the Romanian’s favour. Cirstea registered two aces in the match and converted four out of seven break points. She recorded 71% and 48% n the first and second serves respectively to seal the deal.
