Hubert Hurkacz hasn’t been in great form recently and looks to start the year on a high. He hasn’t made it to the later stages of any of the major tournaments he has played in the last couple of months. He lost to Rune at the Paris Masters right in the second round and also in the opening round to Thiem at the European Open. In the ongoing Marseille Open, he beat Riedi in the round of 16 stage by 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and beat Ymer in the quarter-finals by 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
Alexander Bublik has been in a woeful run for the past few tournaments and questions are being raised about him regarding his approach and style of play. He has not made it out of the first round stage of a single tournament and this Marseille Open must be his turnaround tournament. He lost to Wawrinka at the Rotterdam Open, to Barrere at the Open Sud De France, to Davidovich Fokina at the Australian Open, to Goffin at the ASB Classic, and against Ymer at the Paris Masters all in the opening round. In the ongoing Marseille Open, he beat Krajinovic in the first-round matchup by 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, and Barrere in the round of 16 stage by 6-4, 6-2. In the quarter-finals, he defeated Dimitrov by 5-7, 6-3, 6-7.
