Pedro Cachin, a lucky loser who hadn’t won a match on indoor hardcourts since 2018, was defeated by Cameron Norrie in three sets and more than two hours. The Brit required a tiebreaker to win the match after dropping the opening set, saving several breakpoints in the opening moments of the second set, and going down 3-6, 6-2, 7-6. Since getting over COVID, all three of his matches have gone the distance, and in both of the matches he won, he dropped the opening set. Last week in Stockholm, he defeated the out-of-shape Aslan Karatsev in the opening round in three sets before falling to the eventual champion Holger Rune in the quarterfinals after leading by a set.
On his first main-draw campaign, Marcos Giron easily defeated a struggling Tallon Griekspoor to go to the second round of ATP Vienna. With the exception of avoiding three straight breakpoints while serving for the first set at 5-4, he appeared to be in control the entire match, 6-4 6-2. The American’s w-l record in 2022 (22/29) may not look impressive, but this would possibly be the best season of his career because he had a few strong performances on the main circuit. Early in the season, he defeated Taylor Fritz to advance to the semifinal in Dallas (IH), and last month, he competed in his first championship match on the main tour in San Diego. He also earned several important victories over players like Diego Schwartzman.
Cameron Norrie and Marcos Giron are scheduled to take on one another in the second round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Indoors on Thursday, October 27. The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 23 to October 30, 2022.
The ATP Vienna Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 24, 2022 and conclude on October 30, 2022.
