On Friday, in the quarterfinal round of the WTA Slovenia open Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany will face Diane Parry of France.
On Thursday, Anna-Lena Friedsam shocked first seed Emma Raducanu with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 victory in her Portoroz debut. Her trip, which started in the qualifying rounds, included beating wildcard Elizabeth Mandlik in the first round after falling behind 0-6 and 0-3 (double break). Other than that, the German has recently been entirely directionless and didn’t record back-to-back victories in the first four months of this year. With a 4-4 career record in these contests, she will play in her first WTA quarterfinal since losing to Sofia Kenin for the title in Lyon prior to the epidemic.
Diane Parry is adamant about maintaining her momentum for success. She overcame a 5-1 disadvantage in the first set to win convincingly against former world no. 19 Donna Vekic and then defeated fellow former junior world no. 1 Anastasia Potapova 7-6, 6-4. Prior to this summer, the newly turned 20-year-old had only one main draw victory and was experiencing a dry spell in terms of success on the circuit. Since then, she has advanced to the third round at Wimbledon and Roland-Garros, as well as making her first quarterfinal appearance in Palermo and first semifinal appearance in Granby.
Anna-Lena Friedsam and Diane Parry are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 WTA Slovenia Open on Friday, September 16. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 12 and end on September 18.
