On Monday, Dan Evans, ranked 25th in the world, will play Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, ranked 54th, in the opening round of the 2022 European Open in Antwerp.
Evans’ win-loss record over his last eight matches may not look too bad, but as the 25th-ranked player, he would have liked to perform much better. More recently, Evans suffered a three-set loss to Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round of the Tokyo Open, despite having a 4/5 chance of winning. He had previously lost in the opening round of the Korea Open after reaching the semifinals of the San Diego Open late last month.
Griekspoor is on a bit of a losing skid if one excludes the Davis Cup from the season, going five matches without a main draw victory. Griekspoor’s most recent victory came at the Winston-Salem Open when he defeated Taro Daniel as a lucky loser to go to the second round. But since then, he has dropped out of that competition in the second round and subsequently suffered losses in the first round of the US Open, Tel Aviv, Astana, and Florence.
Dan Evans, and Tallon Griekspoorr are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Monday, October 17. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP European Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
