The two teams are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, July 6 in the round of 16 of the 2022 Championships.
Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell defeated Third seeds Skupski and Wesley Koolhof following an unbelievable comeback in a five-set thriller 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-5. With a break at the conclusion of each set, Purcell and Ebden appeared to have everything under control in the first two sets. As Ebden closed off the second set with three outstanding volleys, the Australians appeared to be on track to win easily in straight sets. Purcell, who had not been broken during the entire game, came back from 0-40 down in the final and saved a total of five break points to maintain parity.
Murray and Bruno Soares were beaten 7-6(5), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 by seventh seeds John Peers and Filip Polasek in the men’s doubles. The British-Brazilian combo dropped just one game on service in the midst of the first set tie-break, which proved pivotal when Peers and Polasek earned their sixth set point with an ace from the Australian. Murray and Soares kept pushing their opponents, but when the Brit was broken in the fourth set, it was game over. The Australian-Slovak team advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to two unreturnable serves in the last game.
