On Wednesday in Turin, Novak Djokovic defeated Russian Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-1 to earn a position in the top four of the ATP Finals. After the first nine games were all served, Djokovic accelerated to overcome Rublev. Rublev, who, like Djokovic, had won his opening match at the year-ender, gave up while serving to stay in the first set and dropped the set as Djokovic blasted a backhand return winner. The second set was a non-event as five-time champion Djokovic cruised to victory in just over an hour.

Djokovic, 35, said he won’t be taking it easy against Medvedev on Friday even if he is guaranteed a berth in the weekend’s semi-finals, when he will try to equal Roger Federer’s record for titles in the ATP’s season-ending event. Djokovic wants to equal Roger Federer’s record of six victories at the event. His most recent success was in 2015. In the first match between the two, Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas. Daniil Medvedev, who had also dropped his Red Group opener, was the opponent Tsitsipas later played.

“As his children Tara and Stefan watched him play for the first time, Djokovic stated, “I played one of my finest matches of the year.” Once I won the first set, “I found the right mentality and the proper game, and once I did, his energy went down,” I simply wanted to use that momentum in the second set, and it was a flawless second set.” Twitter was abuzz with fan reactions and in this article, we take a look at some of the best ones.
